The Buffalo Bills announced Saturday that newly acquired quarterback Matt Barkley would start Sunday versus the New York Jets.

Rookie quarterback Josh Allen was ruled out in the Bills’ injury report on Saturday. Allen is still recovering from an elbow injury to his throwing arm suffered during the game against the Houston Texans on Oct. 14.

The Bills had previously ruled out quarterback Derek Anderson, leaving them with the choice of Barkley or second-year man Nathan Peterman, who has not had much success in live play.

The Bills signed Barkley on Oct. 30. He is on his sixth team in six seasons, and hasn’t appeared in a regular-season game since 2016, when he started six games with the Chicago Bears. Barkley was cut by the Cincinnati Bengals in September after hurting his knee in a preseason game.
